The word “escogida” comes from ES and “cogida”, i.e. taken: a hand is taking a flower, so the flower is taken, “cogida”.
The verse, popular and well known in Seville from the 17th century, as a declaration of the Immaculate Conception, says: “All the world, in general, aloud, oh chosen queen, say that you are conceived without original sin”.
